City streets in different areas of the capital were inundated due to the incessant rains caused by Cyclone Sitrang created acute sufferings to the citizens on Tuesday.
Even stopping the rains since the morning, waterlogging in different parts of the capital, including Jatrabari, Jurain, Demra, Mohammadpur, Azimpur and Badda, remained for hours.
Residents of these areas were suffered seriously for wants of public transportation.
The citizens were struggling to reach their workplaces overcoming the situations.
“There was waist-deep water in front of my house in Mohammadpur Housing Limited. Dirty water from drains were mixed with the rainwater, and created an unpleasant environment,” said Ahmed Hossain of the area.
He said people were in serious suffering as the communications were severed for the flooded streets.
Residents of many areas of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) have been suffering from inadequate drainage systems including the new 36 wards.
Meanwhile, at least two hundred trees have been uprooted in the DNCC area due to the impact of Cyclone ‘Sitrang’.
DNCC removed these trees from the road on Tuesday. A press release signed by Mokbul Hossain, the public relations officer of the DNCC told it.
It said that the DNCC was working continuously to support the affected people.
