In the upcoming Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations on November 6, the number of HSC examinees is two lakh short of last year’s.
This year a total of 12,03,407 examinees will take part in the HSC and equivalent examinations under 11 education boards, whereas the number was around 14 lakh in 2021. Around 1,96,283 examinees are lesser than last year’s.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said this in the Secretariat while talking to the journalists after holding a meeting with the law enforcers on the occasion of the HSC and equivalent examinations.
About the decrease of the examinees, the minister claimed that the number of irregular examinees fell as the pass rate was more.
“The number of irregular students in 2020 was about 2,66,501. It was about 1.14 lakh last year. This year this figure is a bit more than 53 thousand. The number of examinees has decreased due to the decline of irregular examinees,” he added.
About the government’s preparation to contain the chances of the question paper leaks, the minister said that they have taken a number of initiatives including the shutting down the coaching centres for 42 days.
“All the coaching centres will remain closed from November 3 to December 14 in order to hold the examinations free of copying and to avert the rumours of question paper leaks,” she added.
Due to the impact of the pandemic, the government will hold the examinations in reduced marks and the exam hour has also been shortened.
However, Dipu Moni said that the examinations will have full marks from the next year.
The examinees of science group will have to answer only 15 MCQs out of 25 and the time will be 20 minutes. For the theoretical exams, the examinees will answer three questions out of eight in one hour and 40 minutes.
The examinees of the Humanities and the Business groups will answer 15 MCQs out of 30 and the time will be 20 minutes. Examinees will answer only four questions out of 11 in theoretical exams and the time will be one hour and 40 minutes.
In order to hold the examinations in a good environment, Education Minister said the examinees would have to arrive in the centres before 30 minutes.
“If any examinee arrives late under unavoidable circumstances, the cause of the late and roll numbers will be recorded. The exam sets will be fixed 25 minutes ago,” she added.
In addition, no one except centre secretary is allowed to carry a mobile phone in the centre.
In reply to a query of the irregularities of bringing out a number of questions’ sets in Kurigram before the exam days in the recent SSC exams, she said, “We have taken strict steps this time to avert such irregularities.”
