Eminent economist Wahiduddin Mahmud said looting and hooliganism will derail Bangladesh’s development expectation.
He said this while speaking at a seminar held at a local hotel on Sunday, organised by the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS).
Wahiduddin Mahmud said, every country has its own culture in the process of development which made the development expectation. Bangladesh’s own cultural characteristics such as women empowerment, women education and low child mortality rate have been emerged development expectation.
He said the poorer people of the country have cordially accepted any kind of new concepts which were presented to them. Oral rehydration solution (ORS) is one of the best examples. When it was said it would help save the children lives and tried to bring best result. Women workforces have joined in readymade garments (RMG) sector which helped them to viable in economic sector.
He further said that things like looting and hooliganism can turn the development aspirations in an evil way. Desires are associated with values. If these two can be coordinated, development motivation accelerates.
