No rickshaw puller involved with vandalising police boxes: DB

Staff Reporter :
The Detective Branch of police (DB) said that those who vandalised police boxes and attacked police were not rickshaw pullers.
“Those who were involved with attacking police and vandalising police boxes in Mirpur areas in the capital were not rickshaw pullers. Some miscreants involved with these cases were instigated by some vested people who want to weaken police force,” Mohammad Harunur Rashid, Additional Police Commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police told journalists on Saturday.
The arrested ones told police during the interrogation that they didn’t have any rickshaws. Their ‘big brothers’ have instigated them for the attacks on Friday morning, said Harunur Rashid.
The DB chief said it in a press briefing after arresting several persons in connections of those attacks.
He said also that the attackers targeted to push the government in uneasy situation.
But he has not mentioned the political identity of those shelter providers.
The attack was instigated by spreading rumour that a physically challenged rickshaw-puller was beaten by police, the police officer said.
Police have found some names behind the attacks, but the names cannot be disclosed for further investigations, said the police officer.
Harun said that some battery-run rickshaw owners, drivers and motor-parts traders were behind the planned attacks.
The DB arrested about 30 people after launching raids.
Several cases were filed against over 200 unidentified people on charge of the attacks.
The battery-run rickshaws and auto-rickshaw drivers accused traffic police of taking money from them for plying on main roads and often seized their vehicles if the drivers refuse to pay money.
The arrested ones by DB are Jony Islam, Mohmmad Rasel Mia, Suroj, Akter, Shamser Uddin, Rony, Kalim, Masud Rana and Sham.
Several hundred unidentified men vandalised five traffic police boxes in the capital’s Mirpur and Pallabi areas on Friday morning, leaving three traffic police members seriously injured.
