Favourites India Women’s Cricket team will take on Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket team in the final of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today. The gala final starts at 1.30pm (Bangladesh Standard Time). Private satellite television channel GTV will telecast the match live.
On the way to final, India thrashed Thailand by 74 runs in the first semi-final at the same venue on October 13.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka reached the final beating Pakistan by one run in the second semi-final at the same venue on the same day.
India grabbed 10 points from six matches in the group phase. Pakistan also claimed 10 points from as many matches. But by virtue of better run rate India took the top spot.
Sri Lanka gained eight points from six matches. Promising Thailand collected six points from as many outings.
Defending champions Bangladesh failed to reach the semi-final as their last group match against the minnows the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was abandoned due to rain at the same venue on October 11. Thus, Bangladesh split points with the UAE. Bangladesh needed just a win against low-rated the UAE to reach the semi-final. But unlucky Bangladesh finished fifth bagging five points from six matches.
A total of seven teams have taken part in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup, the most prestigious cricket competition of Asia Continent. Reigning champions Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the UAE, Malaysia are the seven teams, which have fought for the prestigious cricket trophy.
