Govt does not support extrajudicial killing: Momen

Staff Reporter :
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Saturday said that the government did not support the enforced disappearance or extrajudicial killing, rather propaganda was being spread in this regard.
He also said the government would take stern actions against the perpetrators if such incidents.
While laying the foundation stone of a high school and college in Sylhet Sadar, Momen said, “The government does not want any enforced disappearance and extrajudicial killing. Propaganda is being spread in the name of enforced disappearance.”
The Foreign Minister said that the western countries give suggestions about the election and democracy in the country.
“The western countries provide suggestions about our election system and practice of democracy. We don’t need their suggestions,” he added.
In recent times, the opposition BNP and other political parties as well as the United Nations and US government have been urging the government of Bangladesh to carry out an independent investigation against the allegation of enforced disappearance.
During her four-day visit in August, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet called upon the government of Bangladesh to set up ‘an impartial and independent mechanism’ to investigate the alleged incidents of enforced disappearance, extrajudicial killing.
On the contrary, the government is replying that no such incident of enforced disappearance has taken place and the allegations which have been given to the United Nations are erroneous and baseless.
