Reckless motorbike riding!

Motorbikes are undoubtedly the most convenient, preferable, and popular vehicle to ensure smooth travel to the desired destinations within short distances in the country’s territory. However, the unreasonable and reckless speedy riding of motorbikes and the absence of safety gear for the riders and pillions are the main causes of most of the motorbike accidents in the country. Consequently, the death toll and incidents of casualty are constantly increasing on roads.
To prevent motorcycle accidents on roads and highways, it is especially imperative to be aware of the basic road sense and road safety code of both motorcyclists and pillions, and the mandatory use of helmets and other necessary safety gear, maintaining the driver’s license and motorcycle fitness, and then to keep in mind the rights of ordinary pedestrians to be safe on roads. Besides, effective implementation of the Road Transport Act-2018 is essential to prevent unexpected accidents on roads and avoid loss of lives and belongings.

Need speed barriers in front of IU main gate

The first university of independent Bangladesh was Islamic University (IU), Kustia. It is one of the best higher education institutes in the country with around 18000 students. This university is located next to the Kushtia-Khulna highway. It is one of the busiest highways in Bangladesh which is connected to Mongla Port. Therefore, the area in front of the main gate of the university is completely unsafe and dangerous. Yet there is no initiative to make the road safe and risk free. Although there is a signboard directing the speed limit on one side, it is now corroded and destroyed.
Many students everyday are crossing the road taking the risk of life. The general students have been demanding speed barriers to the university administration. The administration and concerned authorities should consider the safety of the students and must take necessary steps to construct two speed barriers and at least one pedestrian crossing in front of the main gate of the university.
