Some 168 Supreme Court lawyers demanded the formation of an emergency government immediately to save the country from utter crisis.
The lawyers expressed their frustration in a statement on Tuesday. The statement was signed, among others, by Advocate ABM Rafiqul Haque Talukder, Md Mustafizur Rahman, Md Aminul Haque Majumder, Zillur Rahman and Kamal Hossain.
“The country is now beset with innumerable crises. The condition of the banking sector is grave due to unabated looting. People’s suffering knows no bound because of the price hike of daily essentials,” the statement read.
“A big chunk of the police have been involved in corruption and crimes as the government use them for political purposes. The government has utterly failed to conduct its activities due to bureaucratic complexity and irresponsibility. The entire condition of the country is serious and dissatisfactory,” it added.
The statement further noted that people in the country are failing to make both ends meet while anarchy as well as crimes is unabated.
“The clashes with police are going on while protest is growing up across the country. Deaths have become easy and survival has become difficult,” it added.
Drawing attention to government’s impatience for getting IMF and World Bank loans, it said, “It will not be easy to get loans for a government which has been bankrupt economically and beset with corruptions.” “Only the remittance of the workers in foreign lands has kept us alive somehow. The employment opportunities in foreign countries are dwindling,” the statement continued.
“Under the compulsion of the conscience, we, as impartial lawyers, have reached to a conclusion that it has become indispensible to bring changes in the failed ruling system of the country for saving the nation from this dying crisis,” they said.
“The indispensible changes should not be delayed and it should be in a peaceful manner and we are seeking for this path,” it added.
“It has become necessary to form an emergency government comprising of people’s trustworthy and corruption free patriots. The character and the image of the incumbent failed government will not be functional to get all kinds of assistance including foreign loans,” the statement read.
