Five women get Rokeya Day award in Manikganj

Five women, who achieved successes in various fields, were awarded on the occasion of Rokeya Day and International Women Repression Prevention Week held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner on Tuesday. Rashida Ferdouse, Deputy Commissioner of Manikganj, was present on the occasion as the chief guest. Presided over by Jamila Khatun, District Women Affair Officer, the function was addressed by Aslam Hossain, ADC (Gen), as the special guest.
Jamila Rokeya Begum, wife of Abdur Rahim of village Bailjuri under Ghior upazila, was awarded for achieving self reliance, Swapna Ghose, a disabled woman and now a school teacher, was awarded for her success in education sector, Jahanara Ahmed, wife of Jainuddin, was awarded as a successful mother, Anwara Khatun, wife of Abul Hossain of village Azimpur under Singair upazila, was awarded for social services and Sahera Khatun, a repressed woman, was awarded for her struggle for survival after leaving her husband.
Elaborate programme chalked out for Victory Day in Faridpur
FARIDPUR: An elaborate programme has been chalked out in connection with the observance of the ensuing Victory Day across the district on December 16. The programme of the day will begin with 31 gun -salute at local police line. It will be followed by hoisting of national flag atop all public and private buildings. Floral wreaths will be placed at the martyred memorial altar located at Goalchamat area of the town followed by a victory procession which will parade the main thoroughfares and will end up at the stadium. The programme includes offering special prayers at the mass grave of the liberation war martyrs located on the southern side of the stadium. Formal rally and parade of Victory Day participated by Police, Ansars, VDP and students of different institutions will be held at Sheikh Jamal stadium followed by a reception arranged in honour of the families of the martyred and alive war heroes of this district, reports BSS..
Grocery shop owner fined for selling drug

A mobile court fined a grocery shop owner on the charge of selling drug without licence at his shop at Gatepar area in the town on Tuesday evening.The shop owner who was fined is Tariqul Islam Manik,40, son of late Dudu Miah of Muslimabad Kacharipara area of the town. On information, a team of Jamalpur Rab-14 launched a drive at the grocery shop at 6.30pm and found the shop owner selling sex-stimulating drug Sinzin plus illegally at over taka 300 per piece that sells Tk 60 at medicine shops, Rab sources said. RAB team held Manik, seized the drug and then mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Taijul Islam fined him Tk 10 thousand, in default, to suffer in jail for three months, said Anisuzzaman, commander of RAB-14.
Immigration Office gets wheel chair, LP at Sonamasjid Land Port

Chapainawabganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sonamasjid Land Port C&F Agent Association gave a wheel chair, a stretcher and a first aid box to the immigration authority of Sonamasjid Land Port on Wednesday afternoon for the old and serious patients. President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and director of FBCCI Md. Abdul Wahed handed over the equipments in a simple function on the immigration office premises. Immigration officer Md. Azam received the equipments. Assistant commissioner of customs Nurul Basir Vice president of the Sonamasjid Land Port Clearing and Forwarding (C&F) Agents Association Babul Hasnat Durul, member secretary of the association Sohel Ahmed Palash, customs and police officials and C&F agents among others were present in the function. The speakers in the function said, 50/60 patients go to India for treatment through the port everyday. Some old and serious patients who can not walk had to be carried by their companions as there was no vehicular facility to cross the border. Since now they will no more face the problem, they added.

International Human Rights Day observed in Barisal with different programmes including holding human chain, procession and discussion meeting calling to strict monitoring and strong pressure to preserve human rights at every sphere and time. The programmes organised in the city to observe the day included human chain and rally in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall by Barisal Sammilito Manabadhikar Dibas Udjapan Parishad, colorful processions on city roads by Bangladesh Manobadhikar Commission, Barisal Manobadhikar Jote and other organisations. The programmes were addressed among others by Sohidul Alam, deputy commissioner, Abdur Rouf, upazila nirbahi officer, Dr. Syed Habibur Rahman, Rabeya Khatun, Mousumi Jahan, S M Iqbal, Anowar Zahid, Shuvangkar Chakraborty, Rahima Sultana Kajal, Jibon Krishna Dey, Manobendra Batobayal, Nigar Sultana, Khaleda Haque, Pulak Chatterjee, human rights activists.Speakers and participants of the programmes said UN General Assembly proclaimed 10 December as Human Rights Day in 1950, to bring to the attention ‘of the peoples of the world’ about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as the common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations.
