Train mishaps in Narsingdi, Comilla snap Dhaka’s rail links with Chittagong, Sylhet

Dhaka’s Train communications with Chittagong and Sylhet have been suspended following derailment of two trains in Comilla and Narsindgi on Thursday. A coach of the Jalalabad Express went off the tracks around 9am at Comilla’s Jangaliya while the Chittagong Express derailed in Narsingdi’s Methikanda around 8am. The rescue train, which came to salvage the derailed Chittagong Express, also rammed it, injuring five people. The three accidents within a span of two hours halted train services on Dhaka-Chittagong, Dhaka-Sylhet and Chittagong-Sylhet routes. Tracks at Narsingdi were cleared around 11.30 am after which rail links between Dhaka and Sylhet resumed, said Akhaura Railway Junction Police Station OC Saidul Islam. But, train traffic on the remaining two routes would not resume until salvage works in Comilla were completed, said Comilla’s Laksham Loco Shades Senior Sub-Assistant Engineer Noor Mohammad.
