Flood death toll is 140 in the country

The flood death toll in the country reached 140 as one more death was reported from Sylhet in 24 hours till Thursday morning, sources said.
As per the data of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the total deaths were recorded from May 17 to August 18 during the recent flood across the country.
Among the flood deaths, 79 were from Sylhet, 43 from Mymensingh, 17 from Rangpur and one from Dhaka division.
The DGHS data showed that 108 people drowned in floodwaters while 19 died by lightning strikes, three from snake bites, one from diarrhoea, and nine others due to other reasons related to the flood water.
It said that about 33,994 people were hit by flood water during the same period in different districts.
About 37 upazilas, including 33 in Sylhet, three in Rangpur and one in Chattogram divisions were affected by the recent floods.
Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar and Netrokona were the worst-hit districts, whereof 13, 11 and five upazilas hit by floods water during the period.
