A gold shop was robbed in Abdullahpur Bazar area under Dakshin Keraniganj of the capital by blasting a bomb-firing bullets and causing panic among the locals.
The robbery took place at Al Amin Jewelers on the Dhaka-Mawa highway on Wednesday noon (August 17).
They took away gold weighing 500 bhari.
It was learned that six robbers came by motorcycles and entered the jewellery shop after firing 15-20 bullets and blasting 10-12 bombs.
They also shot the shop owner Swapon, 50, in his leg as he tried to grab one of them.
Kalam Miah, the businessman of the market, said that the robbery happened in the afternoon while the police were on patrol at the Abdullahpur bus stand, just at a distance of 400 yards from the market.
This cannot be accepted. A case is being prepared in Dakshin Keraniganj police station.
Shah Zaman, Officer-in- Charge (OC) of Dakshin Keraniganj police Station confirmed the matter to the New Nation saying that it was not robbery, but an incident of snatching. We will hold the robbers soon and rescue the gold.
