Mobile courts consists of seven magistrates are active on the roads of the Dhaka city from Sunday morning in order to stop extra bus fares and implement new fares set by the government.
Road Secretary ABM Aminullah Noori announced this at a press conference at Bangladesh Road Transport Agency (BRTA) building on Saturday (August 6) night.
He said that monitoring starts immediately after the fare is increased. Besides, BRTA magistrates were always on the roads whenever fare hiked. BRTA Chairman Noor Mohammad Majumder claimed that their seven magistrates are always on the roads to check excessive fares. They operate six days a week through mobile courts on the road.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association Enayet Ullah said that “our expenses have increased by 70 percent, but still we have accepted the government’s decision thinking about the citizen’s welfare”.
He said Law enforcement agencies will take action if any transport collects excessive fares. The owner association is strict regarding this, he added.
