Islami Andolon Bangladesh (IAB) has slammed the government for its silence to the India’s water aggression and the killing of the Bangladeshi nationals on the borders.
Even, the Islamist party criticised the ruling Awami League for not condemning the incident of BJP leaders derogatory comments about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Islami Andolon Bangladesh censured the role at a protest rally held on the north gate of the National Mosque Baitul Mokarram in the capital on Saturday.
The party also placed 15-point demands which include the protest against the India’s water aggression and border killing.
Ameer of the Islami Andolon Bangladesh Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim said that the ruling Awami League is not protesting India’s unethical activities because the government sees nothing wrong with India.
“It is failing to take any step against India’s water aggression and the killing of Bangladesh nationals on the borders because the government loves India passionately,” he added.
Mentioning government’s silence over the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders’ vituperative remarks about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), he said, “Though the whole world protested the incident, the government did not table any motion of condemnation in the parliament. They love India more than anything.”
Highlighting the importance of rivers with the lives and biodiversity in this region, Rezaul Karim said, “Our civilisation has link with the rivers. The lives have flourished here by the rivers. But the government’s wrong policy, India’s water aggression and weak foreign policies have made the land a desert.”
He also mentioned that there were 24 thousand kilometers of rivers in Bangladesh but now it is only four thousand.
He also claimed that some 158 rivers in Bangladesh have dried out after independence.
“India has killed our 54 common rivers by setting up Farraka and Gozoldoba dams. When we need water, India stopped water flow by closing the sluice gates. Thus it endangers our food security and destroys the biodiversity.”
“But in monsoons, India releases water which causes floods and kills lives and destroys crops,” he continued.
Criticising the government, the IAB Chief said, “The government is in power for more than one era bypassing people’s votes. The government has established the reign of terror through limitless looting in the name of development.”
He also said that the government has failed to control the drugs which are destroying the young generations.
About the corruption, he said, “The commodity prices are now out of the reach of the commoners for the government’s failure to eradicate corruption and the policy of favoritism and nepotism for the party people.”
Mentioning the recent teacher killing by a student, Mufti Syed Muhammad Fayzul Karim said, “The morality of the students has decayed. Now they are killing the teacher. It is a shame for all.”
He also claimed that the government has shrunk the teaching of high values and moralities by dropping the teachings of Islam from the textbooks.
After the rally, the activists brought out a procession but when it reached Shantinagar, police intercepted.
