Seven teachers of Dhaka University (DU) Psychology Department have demanded investigation and disciplinery action bringing some allegations of corruption and other illegal activities against department’s Chairman Prof Dr Kamal Uddin.
The teachers submitted a letter in this regard to the Vice Chancellor of the university Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman expressing no confidence and requesting to present it at the Syndicate meeting on June 26.
Copies of the letter have been given to all the syndicate members including Pro Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof Muhammad Samad and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) Prof ASM Maksud Kamal.
However, the matter was presented on Wednesday at the ongoing Syndicate meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman.
“The matter was presented at the syndicate meeting. Dr AKM Mahabub Hasan, deans of the Biology Faculty has been given the responsibility to look into the matters,” Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) Prof ASM Maksud Kamal said.
The seven teachers who expressed distrust are Prof AKM Rezaul Karim, Dr. Ayesha Sultana, Associate Professor Arifa Rahman, Dr Akib-ul Haque, Assistant Prof Chhanda Karmakar, Sanchari Pratibha and Faria Bakul.
Copy sources laid that a total of twelve different allegations were brought against Prof Kamal Uddin by the teachers.
The teachers alleged, “Prof Kamal Uddin does not care about the rules of the university including DHAKA UNIVERSITY ORDER 1973 in Academic Committee (AC) and Curriculum & Development (C&D) meetings.”
“The Chairman had reconstituted the Store Keeper Recruitment Committee by writing a fraudulent letter to the higher authorities rejecting the decision of the AC and C&D meeting which had already been stayed by the High Court on April 27, 2022. We demanded investigation and disciplinary action about it,” the teachers written in the latter.
“Almost every month since Prof Kamal Uddin took responsibility as chairman, he has been setting some agenda for the recruitment of teachers or staff and the creation of new posts at C&D meetings which seems to be part of his alleged corruption intentions,” the teachers alleged.
Besides, the teachers brought eight different allegations on calumniation, misbehavior, mental torture and harassment against Prof Kamal Uddin.
