Bangladesh kept domination in the second Test against Sri Lanka as they had 83-run lead in the first innings in the rain-interrupted third day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Wednesday.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh piled up a mammoth total of 365 in the first innings on the second day (Tuesday).
Sri Lanka were at the stumps at 282 for the loss of five wickets.
Sri Lanka resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 143 for the loss of two wickets.
Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusan Rajitha resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 70 and naught respectively.
Kusan Rajitha failed to open his account on the third day as he (0) was bowled out by Ebadot Hossain when the islanders’ total was 144 for the loss of three wickets.
After Rajitha’s dismissal, Dimuth Karunaratne (80) was bowled out by Shakib Al Hasan when the tourists’ score was 164 for the loss of four wickets.
Then, Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya de Silva rescued their team from debacle adding together 102 runs in the fifth wicket stand before Dhananjaya was caught behind by wicketkeeper Litton Das off Shakib Al Hasan when the visitors’ total was 266 for the loss of five wickets.
Dhanajaya notched up a sedate 58. His 95-ball innings was belted with nine fours. It was Dhananjaya’s 10th half-century in Test cricket.
After Dhananjaya’s dismissal, Bangladesh bowlers failed to get any wicket.
Angelo Mathews remained unbeaten with 58 runs. He hit four fours and a sixer in his 153-ball innings. It was Angelo’s 38th half-century in Test cricket.
Dinesh Chandimal remained unbeaten with 10 runs.
Left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan and right-arm pacer Ebadot Hossain got success on the third day.
Shakib Al Hasan captured three wickets at the cost of 59 runs, while Ebadot Hossain claimed two wickets in the space of 78 runs.
