Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said that he did not place any formal proposal to the US to bring Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to election, rather it was a contextual statement.
“We want all the political parties to take part in election. All but one big political party join the election. This political party publicly says that they would not participate in the election. We have given all our efforts to bring them to election but they don’t come,” he said.
“US Secretary of State Antony Blinken asked me as to why BNP does not join election. Then I said if you (US) can bring them to election. We have given our efforts. We want to bring all to the election. I did not place any formal proposal to US about it,” he added.
The Foreign Minister said this to the journalists in his office in the capital after concluding his foreign meetings in several countries including USA, Japan and Singapore.
“If a political party doesn’t join in the election willingly … they fear the people because they did not come to power through democratic process. They were born in the cantonment. We cannot bring them to election,” Momen said.
Foreign Minister Momen further told Blinken that the election process of Bangladesh was transparent and Bangladesh was born for democracy when people’s voice was denied.
He also said Awami League government has given all efforts to bring BNP to election.
“We have given our efforts but they don’t come.
