Voting in SCBA polls starts today

Voting in two-day polls to elect the office bearers for 2022-2023 session of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) will start today (Tuesday) at 10.00 am.
Voting will begin at 10.00 am and will continue till 5.00 pm with one hour recess in the middle on election days.
A total of 31 candidates are taking part in the election against 14 posts, election sub-committee sources said.
The election is held each year to elect 14 office bearers, of which seven are office-bearer posts and seven are executive members.
A total of 8623 lawyers will exercise their franchise in this election. A seven-member election sub-committee has been formed headed by advocate AY Mashiuzzaman, former Secretary of the SCBA, to conduct the election. Main contest will take place between two panels— pro-BNP ‘Blue Panel’ and pro-Awami League ‘White Panel’.
Senior Advocate and also a former Secretary of the SCBA Barrister Bodruddoza Badal has been picked for the President post in the upcoming polls while incumbent Secretary Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal again nominated for his current post from the pro-BNP ‘Blue Panel’.
Advocate Mohammad Monir Hossain and Advocate Asrarul Haque will contest Vice President, Advocate Mahfuz Bin Yousuf and Advocate Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Khan will vie in the posts of Assistant Secretary and Advocate Md Kamal Hossain will contest Treasurer post from the panel.
Lawyers Md Golam Akter Zakir, Monjurul Alam Sujan, Mahdin Choudhury, Fatima Akter, Mohammad Faisal Dastagir, Md Mostofa Kamal Bachchu and Anwarul Islam Badhon will appear for the seven posts of Executive Member from the panel.
Senior Advocate and also a former additional attorney general Md Momtaz Uddin Fakir has been picked for the president post in upcoming polls while Advocate Md Abdun Nur Dulal nominated for the post of secretary from the pro-Awami League ‘White Panel’.
Advocate Mohammad Hossain and advocate Md Shahidul Islam will contest in the posts of vice president, Barrister Md Hurunur Rashid and Barrister ABM Hamidul Mejbah will vie for the posts of assistant secretary and Dr Md Iqbal Karim will appear for the post of treasurer from the panel.
Lawyers Hasan Tarique Palash, Md Maniruzzaman Rana, Munmun Nahar, Subrata Kumar Kundu, Shafique Raihan Shawon, Shahadat Hossain Rajib and Fatema Begum Rina are battling for the seven posts of executive member from the panel.
Three other lawyers, excluding these two panels are also contesting in the election. One in vice president post and two others in assistant secretary post.
