2-day weekend in educational institutions from 2023

Staff Reporter :
The government has decided to extend weekly holidays for two days (Friday and Saturday) from 2023, and no divisional separation (science, arts or commerce) will exist in secondary level from 2024.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said this at the inauguration of the new curriculum of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) on Saturday.
She said, “The decision of two days holiday will be effective from 2023 while no divisional separation (science, arts or commerce) from class-9 to class-10 (in secondary level) will exist from 2024. Students who are joining the new curriculum will also get two days off a week.” Dipu Moni said, “Not just knowledge; The goal of the new curriculum is to acquire skills. That is the path of our future.”
She said, “Piloting will continue at present, it will be implemented in 62 educational institutions. If it is successful, it will be implemented from 2023, initially from 6th and 7th class. And in 2024, it will be implemented in 8th and 9th class.”
Education Minister said, “We will see if the students are becoming proficient according to the new curriculum. When we get feedback from students on the implementation of the 4th Industrial Revolution, we feel successful.”
She said, “The previous courses did not have directions to the right destination. New curriculum has been formulated to implement that instruction.”
Seeking cooperation of all in this regard, Education Minister said, “For this, training of teachers and laboratory will be required. If an organization cannot manage that on its own, we will provide”.
