‘Nobody should pass remarks on court verdict’

Awami League Advisory Council member and former Railway Minister Suranjit Sengupta, MP, said that nobody should pass any remarks on the court verdict against Jamaat leader Kamruzzaman. “Nobody should indulge in arrogant attitude with the verdict of the court.
Let the court complete its work,” he said.
Suranjit Sengupta said this on Monday while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city.
Bangabandhu Academy organised the discussion on current politics at the auditorium of Diploma Engineers Institution at Kakrail marking Shaheed Noor Hossain Day with its organising secretary Sajjad Hossain in the chair. Leaders of Bangabandhu Academy Humayun Kabir Mizi, Haroon-ar-Rashid Chowdhury, Minhaz Uddin and Abdul Hye Kanu were the discussants, among others.
Suranjit Sengupta, a senior lawmaker of the ruling Awami League, said, “There is no provision for review on the verdict of the country’s highest court handed down to the war criminals. It’s not fair from the part of those who have been passing remarks on the court verdict.” He advised all concerned to wait with patience till the execution of the verdict.
Turning to filing of writ petition by a lawyer challenging 16th amendment to the constitution, the senior parliamentarian said through this amendment, the constitution of 1972 was fully restored and the judges’ dignity would be enhanced manifold with the restoration of the constitution of 1972. Recalling the supreme sacrifice of Noor Hossain, the senior Awami League leader said, “On that day I witnessed as to how Noor Hossain freed democracy from the clutches of autocracy by sacrificing his life. The people of the country have now been enjoying the fruits of his supreme sacrifice.”
