Namibia stunned their stronger opponents Scotland after beating them by four wickets in their Group-2 match of the ICC T20 World Cup at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday.
Batting first Scotland made 109 for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
In reply, Namibia romped home and dry scoring 115 for the loss of six wickets when they had just five balls to spare.
Namibia lost their four wickets for 67 runs.
Opener Craig Williams made 23 from 29 balls including one sixer.
Michael van Lingen, the other opener scored 18 from 24 balls with two fours.
One-down Zane Green was dismissed for nine, while second-down Gerhard Erasmus was removed for four runs.
Then, David Wiese and JJ Smith helped their side scoring together 35 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Wiese (16) was caught by Mark Watt off Michael Leask when Namibia’s score was 102 for the loss of five wickets.
Then, Jan Frylink arrived at the crease but he could stay at the pitch for a short period as he (2) was caught by McLeod off Brad Wheal when Namibia’s total was 109 for the loss of six wickets.
JJ Smith played the key role to chase Scotland’s paltry total. Smith remained unbeaten with 32. He hit two fours and two sixes in his 23 ball innings.
Leask captured two wickets in the space of 12 runs, while Mark Watt, Chris Greaves, Safyan Sharif, Brad Wheal took one wicket apiece.
Earlier, Leask also shone with the willow making 44. He hit four fours and two sixes in his 27-ball innings.
Ruben Trumpelmann of Namibia grabbed three wickets at the cost of 17 runs and was adjudged the Man of the Match.
