Dengue claimed two more lives in Dhaka city while 214 new patients were hospitalized across the country in 24 hours till Monday morning.
With the latest figure, the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease rose to 63 this year, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among the new patients, 163 were undergoing hospital treatment in Dhaka while the remaining 51 cases were reported from outside the division, according to DGHS.
Some 989 patients diagnosed with dengue fever are receiving treatment in the country as of Monday morning.
Of them, 758 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 231 were listed outside Dhaka.
Among the deceased, 58 died in Dhaka city alone, two each in Chattogram and Khulna divisions and one in Rajshahi.
Some 17,571 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January.
So far, 16,519 dengue patients have left hospitals after recovery, said the DGHS.
The number of dengue patients hospitalized in a single day was the highest with 343 patients on September 7.
In the month of August the country recorded the highest number of 7,698 dengue cases of the current year. In July, 2,286 people were diagnosed with dengue and 12 died while in June 272 cases were recorded with no deaths.
Meanwhile, two more people died of dengue in 24 hours till 8:00am on Monday, taking the death toll to 63 from the Aedes mosquito-borne viral disease since January.
In the 24 hours, 214 more dengue patients were hospitalised with the number of hospitalised patients reaching 17,571 since January, according to a press release issued by the Health Emergency Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services on Monday. Of the hospitalised patients in the 24 hours, 163 were hospitalised in Dhaka and 51 in other places across the country.
Two deceased were aged between 21 years and 30 years, according to the DGHS release.
Fifty-eight of the 63 people died since January were in the capital city, two each in Chattogram and Khulna divisions and one in Rajshahi division.
Twelve of them died in July, 34 died in August and 17 died in September, according to the release.
Of the hospitalised patients since January, 15, 114 or 86 per cent were in Dhaka. In 27 days in September, 7,215 patients were hospitalised across the country while the August figure was 7,698. Earlier, 2,286 hospitalised cases were recorded in July and the total figure in January-June was 372.
On Monday, 989 dengue patients, including 758 in 45 government and private hospitals in the capital, were undergoing treatment in health facilities across the country.
According to the release, 16,519 patients have recovered from the disease since January.
