SAFF Championship BD take on Lanka in 1st match on Oct 1

Bangladesh Football team will take on Sri Lanka in their first match of the SAFF Championship on October 1 at Male, the capital city of Maldives. Hosts Maldives will face Nepal in the opening match on the same day.
The SAFF Championship was scheduled to held in Sylhet from August 30. But later, the most prestigious football meet of South Asia was suspended due to coronavirus.
A total of five teams will take part in the SAFF Championship. They are: Maldives, Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Pakistan cannot participate in the football meet as they have been suspended by FIFA, the highest governing body of world football. Bhutan will not compete in the football competition as Bhutan government did not give permission to Bhutan Football Federation to send Bhutan Football team to Maldives due to coronavirus.
The first phase of the football meet will be held on Single League basis. Top two teams will play in the final. The final will be held on October 13.
