Punish the right person or do not fuss about it

A report in The New Nation on Saturday said jailed Destiny boss held 5 zoom meetings from BSMMU prison cell in recent times showing that jail is not a big barrier to hold business meetings or contacting partners from within jail. Investigation has found that the former managing director of Destiny 2000 held those zoom meetings spanning from half an hour to one hour after midnight in four or five days. A probe committee has confirmed the jail’s security breach and submitted the report to the Department of Prisons on July 10.
As per reports 14 prison guards were held responsible. One of them has gone on retirement and measures against 13 others have been proposed. The jailed Destiny boss had cheated thousands of small investors along with other company directors and laundered several thousand crore taka making false promises or using cover business firms existing in name only. He was taking advantage of BSMMU’s relaxed security at the prison cell allegedly reaching women or taking care of business interests. A similar case was detected at Kashimpur central jail some time ago when authorities detected a Hallmark boss, also accused of stealing several thousand crore taka from Sonali Bank, living with a woman inside the prison cell claiming she was his wife.
When the government has no legal standing, breaking laws should not seem wrong to others. The whole system of the government is surviving on abusing law. It is also known how easy it is to scapegoating and avoid being caught.
The government knows without others to break law and join corruption the system of the government will break down. If they show restraint in using officials to abuse power and corruption, some discipline can be expected. The present practice of abuse of law and corruption is breaking down the government. To find the right to punish is not easy under the collective system of abuse of law and corruption.
