The National University authorities decided to promote 316,676 first-year students from the 2019-2020 academic year to second year in light of the worsening Covid-19 situation.
“For now, we are only providing the facility to the first-year students. But if the situation remains unchanged, the second-, third- and fourth-year students will also get the same opportunity,” NU Controller of Examinations Badruzzaman told the media on Wednesday.
“We took this decision to mitigate the loss and continue academic activities amid the pandemic,” he added.
On May 18, the NU administration postponed all written exams pending further instructions. Academic activities at the colleges have remained suspended since March last year.
NU postpones all written exams
Following the decision taken by the NU authorities, only the students who had filled out the form to participate in the exams in 2020 will be allowed to attend the second-year classes.
However, the promoted students would have to sit for first-year written tests once the situation became normal, Badruzzaman said.
If a student is considered “not promoted” after taking part in the exams as per the NU regulations, their promotion will be revoked, according to the conditions set by the university.
