The High Court on Monday refused to grant bail to owner of Regent Hospital and Chairman of Regent Group Mohammad Shahed in connection with a case filed on charge of money laundering.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir passed the order after holding hearing on the bail petition filed by Shahed.
Advocate Fazlur Rahman and advocate Dabir Uddin appeared in the court on behalf of Shahed, while advocate Khurshid Alam Khan stood for the state.
Later Mr Khurshid Alam Khan said, “The court wanted to issue a ruling over his bail in the case, but

the lawyer of the accused didn’t agree with it. Then the court rejected the petition as it was not pressed.”
A Dhaka court on March 7 rejected the bail petition of Mohammad Shahed then he moved to the HC against the rejection order of the lower court.
CID inspector Ibrahim Hossain filed the case with Uttara West police station against Shahed and Regent Group managing director Masud Pervez on August 25, 2020 for amassing Taka 110.02 million through fraud and laundering the money abroad.
Later the case was transferred to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Both the accused are now in jail in the case which is now at the charge framing stage, according to advocate Dabir Uddin.
Shahed was arrested by RAB from Debhata upazila in Satkhira in the early hours of July 15 in 2020 and was airlifted to the capital in the morning. On the other hand, Pervez was arrested from Gazipur on July 14 the same year.
Mohammad Shahed came into the spotlight after Regent Hospital’s Utara and Mirpur branches were sealed off on July 7 in 2020 on account of issuing Covid-19 fake test certificates and other irregularities. Huge documents of Covid-19 fake test certificates were recovered from those two branches then.
Later several cases, including the money laundering case, were filed with Uttara West Police Station against Regent Gtoup Chairman Mohammad Shahed, its MD Masud Parvez and others on different charges.
Dabir Uddin said, “Mohammad Shahed has been made accused at least 20 to 22 cases so far and in an arms case he was sentenced to life term imprisonment.”
