Bangladesh in commanding position on 2nd day

Bangladesh took the commanding position scoring a massive 474 for the loss of four wickets in the first innings against Sri Lanka on the second day of the first Test at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka on Thursday.
Bangladesh resumed their first innings with the overnight score of 302 for the loss of two wickets.
One-down Najmul Hossain Shanto and second-down Mominul Haque resumed their first innings with the overnight score of 126 and 64 runs respectively.
Shanto and Mominul shared a record 242-run partnership in the third wicket stand before Shanto was caught & bowled by Lahiru Kumara when Bangladesh’s total was 394 for the loss of three wickets.
Shanto hit an unprecedented 163. His 378-ball innings was decorated with 17 fours and a sixer. Shanto reached his 150-run landmark using 343 balls with 16 fours and a six.
Mominul Haque played a captain’s knock of 127. His 304-ball knock was ornamented with 11 fours. Mominul reached his 100-run landmark capitalizing 224 deliveries including nine fours. It was Mominul’s 11th Test century and maiden ton in abroad. He has retained his top spot as the highest Test centurion of Bangladesh.
After Shanto’s departure, Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim added 30 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Mominul was caught at the first slip by Lahiru Thirimanne off Dhananjaya de Silva when the tourist’s score was 424 for the loss of four wickets.
After Mominul’s dismissal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das contributed together 50 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket partnership before the second day’s play came to an end due to bad light.
Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten with 43, while Liton Das remained unbeaten with 25.
65 overs were played on the second day and then rest of the day’s play was not held due to insufficient light.
Lahiru Kumara and Dhananjaya de Silva took one wicket each conceding 88 and 112 runs respectively.
Today Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das will resume their first innings.
