Hilsa protection drive in Bay: 58 fishermen held

Coast Guard in Chittagong rounded up 58 fishermen from Kutubdia and Sandwip channel of Bay of Bengal while catching hilsa and recovered 500 maunds of hilsa fish from their boats yesterday.

Coast Guard forces in Chittagong rounded up 58 fishermen from Kutubdia and Sandwip channel of the Bay of Bengal while catching hilsa and recovered 500 maunds of hilsa fish from their boats.
Coast Guard forces conducted raid in the Bay on Wednesday night against the indiscriminate fishing of hilsa from the channel and detained 8 fishing boats from their possession.
A press release of the CG said this raid against the indiscriminate fishing of hilsa was conducted as a part of Hilsa Prootection Campaign of Deshpartment of Fisheries.
The approximate cost of the seized hilsa is about Tk.29 lakh, release said.The seized fishes have been handedover to fishery department of Chittagong, sources said.
