Taposh not eligible to stay as Mayor: Sayeed Khokon

Dhaka South City Corporation’s former Mayor Sayeed Khokon on Saturday claimed that the incumbent Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh is not eligible to stay in his post for various reasons.
“Taposh deposited DSCC’s hundreds of crores of taka in Modhumoti Bank, which is running under his ownership. He is earning huge money investing those taka. On the other hand, several hundred employees of DSCC are suffering a lot for not getting their wages for months. Besides, different projects of DSCC are also stopped due to lack of money,” Sayeed Khokon said while addressing a human chain in front of Kadom Fountain in the capital.
The programme organized by eviction-drive affected traders of the Fulbaria Super Market-2 demanding their compensation.
Sayeed Khokon said, “Taposh has lost his eligibility for the post of Mayor for unlawful use of City Corporation’s money, as per Section 9 (2) (J) of the Chapter 2, Part II of the City Corporation Act, 2009.”
The DSCC’s former Mayor further claimed that the eviction drive against the traders in Fulbaria Super Market-2 is totally illegal.
“The eviction drive is illegal as I had said earlier. As per court’s directives we decided in the DSCC’s board meeting to legalise the traders by correcting building design and collecting rents for seven to eight years from them,” the former mayor said.
As per the decision of the board meeting, the engineering department of the corporation corrected the building design and the revenue department had collected shop rents of seven to eight years from those traders and allowed them to do business legally, Sayeed Khokon said.
He said, “We have been stunned seeing that DSCC demolished hundreds of legal shops without any notice. Hundreds of traders have become beggars in a moment for this action.
Sayeed Khokon said, “Taposh started rhetoric soon after sitting in the chair of the Mayor. But I want to say him that story about ‘small fries’ does not match in the mouth of ‘big fish’. If you want to build a corruption free administration, you have to make yourself free from corruption first.”
