Two e-rickshaws collide, driver killed in Dhaka

A 50-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was killed after two battery-run auto-rickshaws collided in Dhaka’s Chawkbazar area on Tuesday afternoon, with doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) later declaring him dead.

The deceased was identified as Dabir Ahmed, 50, a resident of Ashtamonisha village in Bhangura upazila of Pabna. He had been living in Mahdinagar in Kamrangirchar.

According to Ratan, owner of the auto-rickshaw garage where Dabir worked, the crash took place in front of Urdhu Road Mosque at around 4pm when two battery-run auto-rickshaws collided. He said local people informed him that the driver of the other vehicle took Dabir to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and left him there.

After receiving primary treatment, Dabir was being taken home when his condition suddenly deteriorated. Ratan then rushed him back to DMCH at around 8pm. Doctors examined him and pronounced him dead at around 8:30pm, Ratan said. Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy.

The concerned police station has been informed and further legal procedures are underway.
