World Heart Day observed in Khulna

Wi-Fi for Joydebpur Rly junction begins

Wi-Fi for Joydebpur Railway junction began from Thursday. DC, Gazipur Md Nurul Islam inaugurated the activities of Wi-Fi on Thursday at Joydebpur Railway junction premises at 1pm. DC spoke as the chief guest at the function. He said in his speech that mass people including railway passengers would get various facilities by Wi-Fi services. He called upon all to assist to build the digital Bangladesh and improvement of the people and country. It was addressed among others by local AL leader Rafiz Uddin Rafiz, formal principal Gazipur Gov. Mohila College prof. M A Bari and local elite. Besides, ADC (rev) Sebastin Rema, ADC (Gen.) Md. Mohasin, ADM Mostafa Kamal along with local journalist and UNO Fawjia Rahman and station master Zia Uddin Sarder were present.
Durga Puja celebrated in Sylhet

Celebration of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, celebrated in the city and all the nine upazilas of the district like other parts of the country amid great enthusiasm and festive mood. The festival was marked by puja, arati, recitation from scriptures, distribution of proshad, offering of devotional songs and bhajans. A huge number of devotees are visiting different puja mandaps to have a look at goddess Durga with great excitement. Besides, huge crowd was seen at every Puja mondaps throughout the day especially in the afternoon. The district administration and Puja Udjapan Parishad Committee (PUPC) sources said total 567 puja mandaps were set up this year in the metropolis and the Sylhet district. District administration has distributed more than 200 tonnes of rice to celebrate Durga puja this year. The celebration will end through the immersion of idols of goddess Durga on Bijoya Dashami Friday.
Truck kills 2 in Sylhet

Two cyclists were killed in a road accident in Changeel area on Sylhet-Tamabil road under Jaintiapur Upazila of the district on Monday. The deceased were identified as Jakaria, 28, son of late Abdul Malik and Monir Hossain, 29, son of Rashid Ali. Witnesses said that riding bicycle the two workers were returning home from their work around 6:00pm. Then a stone laden truck rammed them in the area, leaving Jakaria dead on the spot and Monir critically injured. Later, Monir was rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital but he died on the way of hospital. Jaintaipur Thana Officer-in-Charge Harunur Rashid confirmed the matter.

A mobile court in Kurigram on Monday sentenced a youth to rigorous imprisonment for sexual harassment of a female college student in Kurigram.The executive magistrate of Kurigram administration Mizanur Rahman fined Tk.one lakh , in default three months more RI.SI of Kurigram Sadar police station Mominul Islam said Mizanur Rahman, son of Mohi Uddin Ahmed of village Nobinagar under Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat district serves in Lalmonirhat family Planning office developed love affairs with Sweety Akhter Meem of Kurigram town while he was a student of honours course in Kurigram Govt. College.
The love matter was going on of three years. They also promised for marriage. The lover Mizanur took naked snap over mobile phone in plea of love and cheated her. He begins to cheat with the girl after getting the job. When the girl has created pressure to marry her; he threatened to flash the naked snap to all.Mizanur came to in front of Kurigram Mazida College to meet with the girl Meem in the evening on Monday. The brothers of Meem along with the villagers nab Mizanur and seized SIM card and memory from the mobile phone. Being informed Kurigram sadar thana police rushed to the spot and arrested him and handed over to mobile court. The learned magistrate handed down the verdict at night. The criminal was sent to jail.
