Tea workers block Sylhet road over fellow’s death
UNB, Sylhet :
Workers of a tea garden flew into fury and put up barricade on the Osmani Airport Road in Sylhet following death of a fellow in a road accident at Choukidekhi in the city on Friday, halting traffic for three hours.
Locals said Anil Kurmi Sadhan, 36, a Hindu devotee and a worker of Malinichhara Tea Garden, was killed when a stone-laden truck ran over him while he was going to Chandnighat in the city to attend immersion of Hindu goddess Durga around 6:30 pm.
Another female devotee was injured in the accident and she was taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
As the news of Anil’s death spread around, workers of the tea garden rushed in and blocked the Osmani Airport Road around 7.00 pm in protest.
Traffic on the busy road remained halted for three hours following the incident.
The road blockade, however, was withdrawn around 10.00 pm as police intervened, said Shahzaman, officer-in-charge of Airport Police Station.
