New ACC chair take office
Justice A. K. M. Asaduzzaman assumed office as chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday, while Dr Jahangir Alam Khan and Dr Md Sazzad Hossain Bhuiyan joined as commissioners.
The government appointed retired Appellate Division judge A. K. M. Asaduzzaman as ACC chairman on August 17. Former secretary Dr Jahangir Alam Khan and former Financial Reporting Council (FRC) chairman Dr Md Sazzad Hossain Bhuiyan were appointed commissioners.
Justice Asaduzzaman retired from the Appellate Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court in February this year after serving for several years as a judge of the High Court Division.
Born in Naogaon on March 1, 1959, he earned his bachelor’s and postgraduate degrees in law from Rajshahi University. He was enrolled as an advocate of the district court in 1983, the High Court Division in 1985 and the Appellate Division in 2001.
ACC Commissioner Dr Jahangir Alam Khan is a retired secretary and a member of the 1985 batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration). Born in Manikganj on July 6, 1963, he graduated in law from Dhaka University and later obtained a PhD in law from the same university.
He joined government service in 1988 and served as a magistrate before becoming a deputy commissioner.
Alongside his government career, Dr Jahangir taught law part-time at several reputed universities from 2010. Before joining the ACC, he was a professor of law at Independent University, Bangladesh, and worked as a legal expert on several projects of the Ministry of Law.
