Gayeshwar among 120 BNP leaders, activists secured bail in bus torching cases

The High Court on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to 120 BNP leaders and activists including its standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy in 15 cases filed with different police stations in Dhaka over the incidents of torching nine buses at different places in the capital city on November 12 this year.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan passed the orders
after hearing petitions filed in this regard. Advocate Nitay Roy Chowdhury, Barrister Shahjahan Omar, Advocate Salahuddin Dolon, Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal and others appeared in the hearing for the bail seekers.
Later Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal said, “The High Court granted anticipatory bail to 120 BNP leaders and activists till January 5, 2021 after hearing 16 bail petitions. The bail receivers will have to surrender to the metropolitan sessions judges’ court within this time.”
SM Jahangir Hossain, BNP candidate in the by-election of the Dhaka-18 constituency, Ishraq Hossain, BNP’s mayor candidate in the Dhaka South City Corporation dection, Jubo Dal President Saiful Islam Nirob and Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku and Chhatra Dal President Fazlur Rahman Khokan and Secretary Iqbal Hossain Shyamol, among others, sought bail from the High Court.
A total of 16 cases have been filed with different police stations in Dhaka over the incidents of torching eleven buses at different places in the capital city on November 12 this year.
Around 500 leaders and activists of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its associate organisations and several unidentified people including its standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy have been made accused in the cases.
Walid Hossain, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said that a total of 47 people have been arrested so far over the charges.
