Depression at Bay

Nearly 400 tourists stuck on Saint Martins island

Staff Reporter :
Bad weather has stranded nearly 400 tourists on the Saint Martin Island. They could not return on Friday as the well-marked low over the northwest Bay and adjoining west-central Bay moved north-westwards and intensified into a depression over the North-west Bay and adjoining area.
Among the tourists, there is a group of 300 people
from Cox’s Bazar who went on a three-day trip to the island last Wednesday.
Md Nur Ahmed, Chairman of Saint Martin Island Union Parishad, said there were more than 400 people stuck on the Island.
They were scheduled to return on Friday but could not do due to the rough weather, he said. Tourists had been asked to leave the island on Wednesday, but many did not listen.
Teknaf Model Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hafizur Rahman told the reporters that the tourists are safe and the island’s police outpost has been instructed to keep an eye on them.
