Staff Reporter :
Tarek Rahman, a leader and Joint Convenor of Chhatro Odhikar Parishad of Bangladesh, was allegedly picked up in a microbus by some unknown men from the city’s Roy Shaheb Bazar area on Wednesday afternoon.
According to sources , Tarek went to a lawyer’s chamber in the afternoon for some important task. When he went downstairs to photocopy some documents, some men in plainclothes took him away, said Faruque Hasan, Convenor of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad.
When asked, Faruque said usually when police arrest our men, at the beginning they don’t admit it. It’s one kind of pressure on us so that we never protest against the government.
We, however, want to say if Tarek is not released within six hours, we will call the countrywide demonstration to release him, Faruque said.
The vehicle which took him away was a silver-coloured microbus with the license plate number ‘Dhaka-1121537’, he added.
Other leaders of the platform wrote in social media that men in plainclothes introducing themselves as “DB men” picked up Tarek.
Mahbub Alam, Joint Commissioner of Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police told the media that they have no knowledge of arresting someone named Tarek Rahman.
