Ramesh Chandra Sen, a former minister and MP from Thakurgaon-1 constituency, tested positive for Coronavirus on Wednesday but he has doubts over the test report.
Civil Surgeon of the district Dr Mahfuzar Rahman Sarkar said a medical team of Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College collected samples of Ramesh Chnadra, former Water Resources and Food Minister, on August 3 and the result came out on Wednesday evening.
MP Ramesh has been self-isolating at home and is doing well, said Dr Mahfuzar.
“I’ve no fever and breathing problem…I’m doing well. I’ve doubt over the test results …I’ll send my samples to the hospital again today,” said Ramesh Chandra.
Officials said 437 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus in the district and 272 of them have full recovered.
Clash kills one, hurts 5 in N’ganj

A man was killed and five others were injured in a clash in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj on Thursday.
Deceased Anwar Hossain,47, was the brother of Uchitpura union Swechchhasebak League.
Locals and police said the clash took place at Kadirdia village in the morning over a showdown centering the next UP election.
They said Abu Jafar and ward 5 member Abu Hanif had long been at loggerhead over establishing supremacy in the area. Abu Hanif became angry over a rally organised by Jafar’s follower Abu Sufian as a candidate of the next UP election, creating tension in the area. The clash ensued at 7am when Hanif members supporters attacked Abu Zafar’s men. Both groups equipped with lethal weapons pounded each other, leaving six persons including Anwar injured.
The injured were rushed to the upazila health complex where doctors declared Anwar dead. Confirming the matter, Araihazar Police OC Nazrul Islam said police force has been sent to the spot and the situation is now under control.
Couple killed as bus rams motorcycle in Manikganj

A man and his wife were killed when a bus hit a motorcycle in Sadar upazila of Manikganj district on Thursday.
The accident took place on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Muljan area around 9:30 am that also left 10 passengers of the bus injured. The deceased were identified as Humayun Kabir and his wife Yasmin Akter. Yasmin was an employee at Muljan Palli Bidyut Office.
Manikganj Palli Bidyut Office senior general manager Abdur Rashid Mridha said the bus of ‘Golden Paribahan’ rammed into the motorcycle on which Humayun was riding to drop his wife at her office, leaving Humayun dead on the spot and his wife critically injured. Yasmin was rushed to Manikganj Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared her dead. Golra Highway Police Station officer in-charge Monirul Islam confirmed the matter.

Some 83 new corona positive patients were detected in Bagerhat district during the last five days (from Friday to Tuesday). As a result, the total number of corona positive (detected) patients jumped from 551 to 636 in the district. On the other hand, some 514 corona patients were recovered and some 15 persons died of the pandemic so far in the district, according to a source of the Office of the Civil Surgeon, Bagerhat. Bagerhat Sadar Upazila topped the list of corona positive patients. The total number of corona patients in the Upazila is 171 while Fakirhat Upazila topped the list of corona-deaths. 09 out of the total number of corona-deaths (15) of the district took place in Fakirhat Upazila alone. The Upazila wise corona infected patients of the district are given below:
Farmer killed by lightning in Fakirhat

A poor farmer named Gaffar Molla (60) was killed on the spot by lightning in the village Sayedmaholla under Mulghar Union under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district on Tuesday morning. It is learnt from the locals that in the morning at 10 am while the ill-fated farmer was working in his paddy field it was raining and all on a sudden a lightning flashed on him. As a result, the farmer was killed on the spot.
Child drowned in a pond in Fakirhat

A one year old baby named Abu Bakr, son of one Kamal Shaikh of village Chotobahirdia within Bahirdia-Mansa Union under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district met his tragic end when he was drowned in a pond on Monday morning.
It is learnt from Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex that in the morning at 9 am the unfortunate baby, somehow, was drowned in a pond adjacent to Kamal Shaikh’s residence. The baby was recovered from the pond and brought to the Upazila Health Complex where the physician on duty declared him dead.
2 motor cyclists killed in a road mishap in Fakirhat

Two motor cyclists were killed on the spot when they were dashed violently by a passenger bus coming from the opposite direction on Bagerhat-Khulna Highway at Lakpur-Khajura area under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district on Saturday morning, according to a delayed report received here. The deceased were identified as Mujibor Talukdar (26), son of one Nawsher Talukdar of village Chowdhahazari under Chitalmari Upazila in Bagerhat district and Ruhul Amin Shaikh (26), son of one Abul Hasan Shaikh of village of Dhopakhali under Kachua Upazila in the district. Police seized the bus and arrested its driver Md. Selim Shaikh (55).
It is learnt from the police of Fakirhat PS that at the noon the deceased were going to Chitalmari Upazila (in Bagerhat district) from Khulna by a motor cycle and when they reached the place of occurrence the police of Katakhali Highway PS (under Fakirhat Upazila) halted the motor cyclists for checking the relevant papers and at that time the killer passenger bus that was going from Bagerhat to Khulna dashed the motor cyclists forcibly from their behind. As a result, both of them were killed on the spot. Following the incident an unpleasant situation was developed between the Highway police and the locals.
Another Shimulia Ferry Ghat goes under Padma water

Another spell of erosion in River Padma started in the Lohajang Shimulia Ferry Ghat area of Munshiganj on Wednesday night, causing the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation Shimulia Ferry Ghat-4 to go under the water.
Shafayet , a manager of Shimulia Ghat BIWTC, said that the erosion started at about 11:00pm and in the meantime, the ferry ghat along with express road and few roads along the ferry ghat went under the water.
Movement of all the ferries and boats on the Shimulia-Kathalbari river route had been closed at about 7:00am to avoid any accident. The erosion is moving towards BIP Ferry Ghat2, said Shafayet.
Cox’s Bazar sea-beach, hotels, motels reopen from Aug 17

Local administration has decided to reopen sea beaches, tourist spots and hotels-motels in Cox’s Bazar municipality area from August 17 on a limited scale.
District administration’s tourist cell took this decision at a meeting held last night.
The beaches and tourist spots in the rest of Cox’s Bazar district will remain closed until further order, said local administration sources. All hotel-motels and tourist spots were closed on March 18 as per the decision of a committee formed following the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
Housewife murdered over nose ring dowry

A housewife was beaten and strangulated to death allegedly by her husband and in-laws as her family failed to meet a dowry demand for a nose ring.
The incident took place in Kholahati village of Gaibandha Sadar upazila around noon.
Police said the deceased Sumaiya Aktar, wife of Suja Mia of Kholahati village, was the daughter of Shahin Mia.
Shahin said the couple got married last year and that he gave cash money and other materials as dowry.
“We failed to give only a nose ring that was also demanded as dowry,” he said adding that Sumaiya’s in-laws have been torturing her for this for a long time.
Sujan takes charge as CCC administrator

Khorshed Alam Sujon on Thursday took the charge as the administrator of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) from the outgoing mayor AJM Nasir Uddin. He will continue to serve as CCC administrator until a new mayor is elected.
CEO of CCC Mohammad Shamsuddoha welcomed Sujan when he arrived at CCC office. After taking the charge, Khorshed Alam Sujan conducted a munajat and doa mahfil in CCC conference room. Later, he went to the CCC conference room and exchanged views with the CCC officials.
