Embezzlement case against Khaleda deferred to Sept 22
Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court yesterday (Wednesday) deferred hearing in two money embezzlement cases filed against BNP Chief Begum Khaleda Zia and others to September 22.
Judge Basudev Roy of Dhaka’s Third Special Judge’s Court also asked Begum Khaleda Zia and others to appear in the court on the day.
The makeshift court of the 3rd special judge set-up on the premises of Dhaka Alia Madrasa ground in the city’s Bakshibazar area passed the order on Wednesday amidst scuffles between the BNP and the Anti Corruption
Commission (ACC) lawyers. The scuffles took place after the hearing of the appeal for rescheduling the date of recording deposition of BNP Chief Khaleda Zia and others in the two cases.
Khaleda Zia’s lawyers on Wednesday morning appealed for rescheduling the date of recording deposition in the two cases.
Begum Khaleda Zia did not turn to the court on Wednesday and the judge accepted her absence but dismissed her appeal to reschedule the date of recording the depositions of the witnesses. He also passed the order to start recording of deposition.
After the order, Khaleda’s lawyers started shouting inside the court and locked into an altercation with ACC lawyers.
However, ACC Deputy Director Harun-or-Rashid was present in the court to testify in the two cases.
Sanaullah Mia, one of Khaleda’s lawyers, told newsmen that they had appealed for rescheduling the date of deposition as BNP chief Khaleda Zia could not attend the court for security reasons.
