Asia-Pacific army seminar begins in city

UNB, Dhaka :
A four-day long 34th Pacific Armies Management Seminar (PAMS) began here at a city hotel on Sunday morning.
PAMS has been held throughout the Asia Pacific region since 1978. Army officers and security officials from 23 nations in the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean region will attend the seminar.
The 34th PAMS is co-hosted by the Bangladesh Army and the US Army, Pacific with the theme ‘A new focus on the Asia-Pacific region:
Opportunities and challenges for land forces’.
General Iqbql Karim Bhuiyan, Chief of Bangladesh Army, and Vincent Brooks, Commanding General of US Army, delivered welcome speeches in the opening session at the PAMS.
The participants are scheduled to discuss several topics, including “Practicing cooperation, developing interoperability of concepts for non-traditional security”, “Balancing requirements for meeting traditional and non-traditional threats”, “Civil-military and multinational cooperation, the essential elements for future stability” and “Building response capacity of land forces for issues of environmental security”.
