10 DU students receive Prof Sitara Pervin Award

A total of 10 students of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Dhaka University (DU) have received ‘Professor Sitara Parvin Award’ for their outstanding academic results in the BSS Honors Examination of 2013.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed scholarships among the awardees as chief guest at a function held on Monday at RC Majumder Auditorium of the university.
Chairperson of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Prof Akhter Sultana presided over the function while Prof Mafizur Rahman delivered “Sitara Parvin Memorial Lecture”.
Prof Dr Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali gave vote of thanks.
Awardees are: Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Md. Asaduzzaman, Amina Khatun, Md. Zakaria Khan, Firdousi Ara, Nusrat Sharmin, Md. Rashedul Islam, Md. Zakir Hossain, Md. Fazle Rabby Haider and Md. Waseq Ur Rahman.
Prof Arefin Siddique paid his deep homage to the memories of late Prof Sitara Parvin and said that she was the brilliant, sincere and ideal teacher.
She contributed her entire life to promote journalism education and research in Bangladesh.
The VC urged the awardees to play the vital role to make enlightened society by following the ideals of Prof Dr Sitara Parvin.
It may be mentioned that Prof. Sitara Parvin was the daughter of former President Justice Shahabuddin Ahmad and the wife of Prof. Dr. Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali. She was killed by a tragic road accident on 23 June 2005 in USA.
