ACC summons Feni Mayor for aiding GK Shamim
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned Feni Municipality’s Mayor Mohammad Alauddin for allegedly assisting corrupt contractor GK Shamim in getting tenders and amassing huge illegal wealth.
ACC Director Sayeed Iqbal Hossain sent a notice on Thursday, asking him to appear at the Commission’s headquarters on February 1.
ACC media department confirmed the matter to media.
According to the notice, the accused mayor took bribe from Golam Kibria Shamim alias GK Shamim
and helped him to manipulate tenders.
The mayor has been summoned to record all the statements and check the facts, as part of the investigation against casino businessmen which includes GK Shamim, the notice added.
On September 20, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested GK Shamim for alleged extortion and tender manipulation.
On September 26, GK Shamim and his bodyguards were shown arrested in a money laundering case.
The elite force then raided his house and office in Dhaka’s Niketan and seized eight firearms, a huge ammunition, fixed deposit receipts (FDRs) worth Tk165 crore, about Tk1.8 crore in cash, a large stash of US and Singaporean dollars and some foreign liquor.
