Smuggled timbers recovered

UNB, Chittagong :

Members of the Forest Department (FD) in a drive today detained a truck loaded with smuggled timbers from Amin Bazar area of Chittagong-Hathazari road.
On a tip-off, a patrol team of the FD signaled a brick-laden truck to stop but the truck driver tried to escape with the truck defying the signal, said Mohammad Shahjahan Ali, Range Officer of Chittagong North Division Forest Department.
Later, the truck driver parked the truck in Amin Bazar area and fled the scene while the FD officers recovered nearly 350 cubic feet of smuggled timbers worth about Takafive lakhs after searching the truck, Shahjahan said.
The timbers along with the truck had been kept at the Kalurghat depot of the Forest Department, he added.
