RHD evict 100 illegal installations from Dhaka-Aricha highway

More than 100 illegal structures have been demolished from both sides of Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar through an eviction drive of Roads and Highways Department (RHD).
A team of RHD started the drive in Pakija area on the highway near Savar bus stand around 10:30am on Saturday.
It demolished and evicted different structures, including illegal shops, godowns and factories till in the after noon.
Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Faruki, the Executive Magistrate of RHD, who led the drive
told journalists that it has been initiated ahead of the Victory Day on December 16.
He said that the drive conducted from Aminbazar to Nabinagar areas would be continued till Sunday.
The magistrate said that on November 24 and 25, they evicted over 1000 illegal structures, including extended portion of a high-rise building on one side of the highway during their first phase of the drive.
They have identified at least 5,000 illegal structures from Aminbazar to Nabinagar areas and will extend their drive to evict all the illegal structure, if necessary.
The officials of RHD said that they have initiated the drive to recover the government lands from grabbers so that people can walk through the pavements easily and the vehicles movements will be smooth.
