WDB urged to stop river erosion in Khagrachhari

Local people and civil society leaders of the district urged Water Development Board (WDB) to take a river control project aiming to stop river erosion at Ganjapara and adjacent 15 villages.
A non-government organisation (NGO) “Arannya Tarunnya” at Shaplachattar area in the hill town on Saturday morning formed a human chain and protest rally as well as held a meeting at Khagrachhari Press Club. The meeting was held with Chunchu Moni Chakma in the chair.
General Secretary of Khagrachhari Press Club Abu Daud Muhammad, Abul Hashem, local union Parishad member, Saifuddin Mithu, president of Arannya Tarunnya, Apu Dutta, vice-president of Arannya Tarunnya, Secretary Ariful Islam and its Founding President Dulal Hossain, among others, spoke at the meeting.
Speakers at the meeting alleged that some houses and educational institutions of Ganjapara and adjacent 15 villages already engulfed by Chenghi river in recent flood but WDB didn’t take any initiative to save the structures as well as the inhabitants.
