Tribal women gang raped in Ashulia, one held

Police on Saturday night arrested an youth named Rony on the charge of raping a tribal woman, by holding her husband captive in the residence, at Ashulia.
Three persons have been accused of raping that woman. The victim filed a case against them on Sunday morning in the Ashulia police station.
The tragic incident took place at her house in the Natunpara neighbourhood of the Vendabar area on Tuesday.
One of the three accused men was arrested on Saturday night. But, two others namely Joy and Shamim managed to flee.

Local sources said that the victim family often used to prepare local alcohol for their own consumption as part of their culture. For this reason, three men visited their home after learning about this and tried to extort money from the family.
At one stage, the group of men took Tk10,000 and a gold chain from the family, and demanded Tk two lakh more, locals added.
When the family expressed their incapability to give the money, the husband was taken to the next room, beaten and tied up.
The wife was then taken to another room and gang-raped.
Ashulia Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Fajukul said, “we have arrested one of them in this connection. We are still continuing our efforts to arrest the other culprits.”
