Botanical Garden launched at IU

Authority of the Islamic University (IU), Kushtia launched a Botanical Garden on the campus aiming to create facilities for researching and enhancing the beauty of the university on Saturday.
IU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashisd inaugurated a tree plantation ceremony on the Botanical Garden with the Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman and Treasurer Prof Dr M Selim Toha around 12:30pm. In association with Development Studies Department and its Rotaract Club around 16 types of saplings were planted on the garden including- Cherry, Chinese orange, guava, malta, olives, cuddle, Jamrul and Thai lemon where more 140 spices of herbs and fruit trees will have been planted at the garden.
IU Social Science Faculty Dean Prof Dr Nasim Banu, Syndicate Member Prof Dr Mahbubar Rahman, Convenor of the Garden Committee Prof Dr Zakaria Rahman, Acting Proctor Associate Prof Anisur Rahman and Tourism and Hospitality Management Department lecturer Shoriful Islam Jewel took part on the occasion conducted by Chief Engineer Alimuzzaman Tutul.
IU BCL unit President Rabiul Ialsm Polash, General Secretary M Rakibul Islam Rakib, Tonmoy Sha Tony, Ariful Islam Arif, Theodor Shuvo Pandya, Sumon Hossen, Anayet Karim Tapu, Nur Alam, Abdur Rahim, Rizwanul Islam and over one hundred BCL activists took part in the event.
While addressing Dr Askari said, the garden will create opportunities of research for the students of the Science Faculty and the keep the university environment fresh.
It also protecting us from the negative effects of global warming and climate change, he added.
