USTC academic deadlock ends after 3 months

The academic and administrative deadlock of the University of Science & Technology, Chittagong (USTC) has been over after two months 25 days following the intervention of district administration and the City Awami League General Secretary and reputed sports organizer AZM Nasiruddin from yesterday .
 The movement of the teachers, physicians, officials and students of USTC under the banner of Teachers , students Officials coordination Parishad suspended with amicable understandings between the management of the University and the agitated between Teachers, students officials coordination Parishad.
 The liveliness among the students, teachers, officials regained following the reopening of the University but no academic classes in medical and other faculties resumed on opening day. The coordination Parishad enforced indefinite strike from May 18 last demanding implementation of 7 points demands including major demands of formulating the pay-scale of teachers and officials and the updated service rules for the teachers, officials and workers.
Both the sides viz. management and the Coordination Parishad signed MOU in judicial stamp fulfilling the demands of the parishad. University sources said formulation of new payscale will be declared within one month and service rules by next two months and other demands to be fulfilled in phases. Vice chancellor of the University Prof. Rezaul Karim told this correspondent that at present we have no problems and the university management fulfilled all demands of the teachers, students, officials, workers . The regular classes and examinations of the different faculties will resume from today(Monday) . He said the demands of the students students including appointment of VC, Pro-VC and Registrar as per Private University Act-2010 will be followed and the registration of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) will be undertaken immediately .
Member Secretary of the Coordination Parishad Anowarul Islam Bappi said, Advisor of BMA , Chittagong chapter and General Secretary of City Awami League AZM Nasiruddin played cordial role for resolving the deadlock and expressed gratitude to him. He said about 10/12 meetings between the management and the coordination parishad were held earlier but no outcome witnessed but lastly with the cordial efforts of AZM Nasiruddin , the deadlock overcomed and the future of the students saved from uncertainty. Mentionable that there are about 4000 students including large numbers of foreign students are studying in this university specifically in medical faculty. The foreign students include from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan , Pakistan are studying in medical faculty, sources said. Sources further said there are about 1500 officials, teachers, physicians and workers inthis university and they expressed heif of sigh following the ending of 3 months long deadlock.
