1st phase of Akheri Munajat ends

The first part of the four-day long Biswa Ijtema ended offering Akheri Munajat by seeking divine blessings for the Muslim Ummah held on the banks of the Turag River in Tongi, on the out skirts of the capital Dhaka on Saturday morning.
Maulana Zubair Hassan, Imam of the Kakrail Mosque in Dhaka, conducted the Munajat on the Ijtema ground where several lakh of his followers took part between 10:42am to 11:06am, while Obaidullah Khurshid read
out hedayati bayan. Thousands of common people also joined the Akheri Munajat on the second day of Biswa Ijtema on Saturday, witnesses said.
On Friday, it began with ‘Aam Bayan’ (general sermons) by Pakistani Islamic scholar Maulana Ziaul Haq.
After their departure of Maulana Zubair’s followers from the Ijtema ground, the another faction of Tablig Jamaat led by Maulana Muhammad Saad Al Kandhalvi started to enter the same venue on Saturday evening.
Biswa Ijtema, the second largest Muslim congregations in the world after the Hajj, began on the bank of the Turag River on Friday and it will end on Monday.
Since 1967, Tabligh Jamaat has been organising the Ijtema in Tongi.
But the Ijtema was held in two phases from 2011 to 2017 to ease the accommodation and transportation problems.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner YM Belalur Rahman said, “Extensive security measures were taken in and around the Ijtema ground to maintain law and order centring the Munajat. As transportations were limited, many Muslims were seen walking towards the Ijtema ground to offer Fazr prayer and participate in the Munajat.”
This year, after the decision was made to hold the Ijtema in a single phase within four days, security measures were taken to ensure peaceful ending.
