Two ‘robbers’ killed in gunfight

Two alleged robbers were killed in a gun-battle with law enforcement at Deobhog under Sadar upazila of Shariatpur on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Jahangir Akhand, 40, son of one Sikander Akhand of Kalkini upazila, and Rashel Hawlader, 32, son of one Arshed Ali of Rajer upazila of Madaripur district.
Police claimed that both youths were the members of inter-district gang robber and several cases have been filed against them with different robbery cases.
Humayon Khabir, Officer in-Charger (OC) of Shariatpur Palong Model Police Station told getting information that a gang of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery in the area around 3am, a team of police conducted a drive there.
Sensing their presence, the gang members opened fire on policemen, forcing the law enforcers to fire back in self-defence.
Police, later, found two bullei-hit bodies of dacoits.Three policemen were also injured in the gunfight, the OC said.
