Birth centenary of dance maestro Bulbul Chowdhury to be marked

January 1, 2019 will be the 100 birth anniversary of dance maestro Bulbul Chowdhury. To mark his birth centenary, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) and Bangladesh Dance Artistes Association are going to arrange year-long programmes from January including inaugural ceremony, publication of memorial book, arranging International Dance Day in April, dance drama festival and country-wide dance competition, seminar on dancing style of Bulbul Chowdhury, etc.
Bulbul Chowdhury was born at Chunati village at Satkania in Chattogram on January 1 in 1919. His real name is Rashid Ahmed Chowdhury. Bulbul Chowdhury was his pseudo name. Bulbul Lalitakala Academy was renamed by his name.
This was announced at a press conference held at Conference Room of National Theatre Hall of BSA. Director General of BSA Liaquat Ali Lucky, noted dance artiste and President of Bangladesh Dance Artistes Association Minu Haque, general secretary Mahfuzur Rahman, veteran dance artiste Amanul Haque, Director of Academy Dr Kazi Asadul Haque, Jasim Uddin, Sohrab Uddin, among others, were present at the press conference.
